Frequently asked questions.
What should I expect from a writing service?
Your writing needs are my priority! You will be the center of any writing session. With most writing services, we will have a conversation at the beginning to discuss your goals, which will guide the rest of our work together. Don’t worry if you don’t know exactly what you need or what your goals are yet, we can figure that out together.
What should I bring to a writing session?
Most if not all of the writing services offered include an introductory session via Zoom, phone, or in-person (if you are in Montgomery) to reach your writing goals. It’s ideal if you have internet access and a device that you can type on. I will work with you to accommodate any needs you may have.
Some writing services will require just an introductory meeting and a follow-up session to finalize a draft, and other writing services (like coaching) require your engagement every step of the way. Regardless of the type of service, it is important that you are able to participate fully in the process. I can’t get to the heart of what you need if you are distracted. I will not write or assist with any project that I have not talked with you about first. This is not a homework service. I want you to leave a session feeling like you have gained a skill that you can use in any future writing you may do.
Why should I let a social worker teach me writing skills?
Great question. Some of the best writers were and are not writers by trade. I feel that the diversity of positions I have held have given me an opportunity to practice all kinds of writing.
Experience-wise, I worked in a Writing Center for 3 years, I audited a poetry course in college, I provided Essay Writing instruction as a tutor on Tutor.com for a year, and alongside my best friends, I co-created the media platform Foreword South, which specialized in longform written narratives about Southern changemakers. I work now as a social worker in a legal office where writing memos and social histories about our clients is one of my daily tasks. Writing happens anywhere and everywhere, and I believe my diverse experiences make me well suited to know how to tailor instruction to your unique needs.
What if I am not satisfied with the service?
Let’s talk about it. I will do what I can to fix a problem if you are dissatisfied with a writing service I have provided. If we cannot come to a mutual understanding about a service provided, or if I make a mistake beyond repair, I will fully refund you for the service provided.
It is important to note that I do not and will not promise specific outcomes as a result of the writing services provided. I do not promise specific letter grades for essay services, I do not promise employment with professional writing services, and I cannot promise admission into any program based on my assistance with writing personal statements.
I do promise that I will treat my work with you with the sensitivity and attention to detail that you deserve.
How do you set your prices?
I set my prices based on the time I spend working on each writing service, both the time I spend talking to you and the time I spend working on the service outside of my interactions with you.
I understand that in many cases, our writing ability correlates with our class or educational privilege. Because of that reality, I do have a sliding scale for folks who are working class, Black and Brown students, or individuals who otherwise cannot afford the prices listed. Use the consultation form to inquire about discounted service rates.
To be transparent, the fees I set for services help me provide discounted or free writing services to communities who would not otherwise have access to these services.
